RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction: Ferrari 599 GTO Breaks $2M
The Ferrari 599 GTO Registry opens with a landmark story. At the 2025 Monterey Car Week, during the RM Sotheby’s auction, one of the most pristine examples ever documented was sold for $1,850,000. Including buyer’s premium, the new owner spent a total of $2,040,000 to acquire this GTO — the first time a 599 has reached such a figure at auction. After nearly two decades, the car showed just 111 kilometers, a testament to its extraordinary preservation.
Context among Ferrari’s limited-series V12s
599 GTO (2010) — 15 years old in 2025, produced in 599 units.
F12tdf (2015) — 10 years old, limited to 799 units, already trading near $2 million.
812 Competizione (2021) — just 4 years old, also 799 units, values consistently around $2 million.
The 599 GTO stands at a crossroads: older and rarer in spirit than the tdf or the 812, yet historically undervalued compared to them. This record auction highlights a potential shift in how collectors perceive its place among Ferrari’s modern V12 icons.
Why do you think the 599 GTO has historically quoted below its sisters, the F12tdf and the 812 Competizione? Does this record sale suggest a shift in perception?
